As early as 1998, Grünenthal founded the Grünenthal Foundation for Palliative Care. It dedicates itself to the needs of people with incurable diseases and limited life expectancies.
The foundation serves the promotion of science and research in the field of palliative care in the form a professorship for palliative medicine at the University of Aachen. Moreover, it supports the care of seriously ill and dying people. The main objective is to preserve the quality of living and the dignity of affected people at the end stage of their life.
