EFIC-Grünenthal Grant

Encouraging innovative pain research projects

Since 2004 Grünenthal GmbH in cooperation with the EFIC (European Federation of Chapters of the International Association for the Study of Pain) supports young scientists in carrying out innovative and exploratory clinical pain research projects. The EFIC-GRÜNENTHAL Grant, totalling up to 200,000 EUR, is one of the highest research awards for clinical and human experimental research projects on the subject of pain.

Grünenthal as a pain specialist appreciates the fruitful exchange of information and experience with courageous junior scientists. It helps us to identify treatment gaps and issues as well as potential solutions for new medications.

Grünenthal is demonstrating willingness and ability to go beyond the horizon of short-term commercial interests. E-G-G is to promote pain research on a long-term basis; funds will be given to those who do basic work in laboratories.

“I very well recall what this support meant for my work”, said Professor Irene Tracey, University of Oxford, UK, one of the EFIC-Grünenthal Grant winners in 2005 and IASP® Councillor United Kingdom. “Winning the grant provided the necessary funding at a critical time to pursue an exciting new line of research. It was from this start that a large programme of research, further funding and several publications have been made possible and I am extremely grateful to the grant organisers and committee for their most generous support”.

From 2010, the E-G-G is announced bi-annually, the award ceremony as well as a show case symposium on the results of previously awarded research projects will be arranged at the occasion of the triennial EFIC-Congress, which will next take place in Hamburg, Germany, in September 2011.
